The upload fields in CMSB will allow you to change the fields to accept ANY file type. I've modified it to accept a wide variety of video formats and it works fine.

Having said that I still suggest to my clients to video host somewhere else to utilize the compression technology out there and just provide a cut-n-paste embed-video box for them to use. There are many advantages to this process: saving bandwidth, keeping the client's site running fast, keeping costs down, using generally available compression technology (YouTube, EVO, etc.), and if your clients are using shared servers like with GoDaddy...then although GoDaddy basic and deluxe shared hosting allows a ton of file space they DON'T ALLOW more than about 8mb per file upload...which severely curtails longer than 20seconds of higher res video per upload. Just a thought.

I agree with @equinox69, you should convince your client to host videos using a third party that specializes in hosting video. From my experience the second you start giving clients the ability to upload videos you open a whole new can of worms that will make your life miserable. Typically the user interface on the third party site is better for managing their videos anyway so you end up with a happier client. With all the web technologies out there today, it's not that off the wall for clients to have to log into multiple admin sites to manage content for their one web site. If you think about it, that is consistent with the metaphor for modern web sites, ie you can go to one web site to get content from multiple sites. So it should be conceivable that you may have to go to multiple sites to manage the content. The other argument you can make is that of cost. Sure you can build out a super robust video management system, but it will cost $20,000-$50,000 to build then who knows how much to maintain with updates. Why not just leverage third party technology that is already out there that is constantly updated for a small monthly fee or even free if you use you tube, etc...

Hi @Djuila,

Attached to this post is version 1.01 of the email new acount activated link plugin.

Changes:
Added code to plugin to check account to see if "email sent" field is true. If it is true the link is greyed out in the list and not clickable. NOTE: there is code in the comments on how to hide link completely if you need to.

Requirements:
To make this function work you must add a checkbox field to your accounts section called "activation_email_sent" If you type "Activation Email Sent" in the section editor it will create the "activation_email_sent" field name for you.

Hello everyone,

I've attached the final version for the first round of the Email New Account Activated plugin that I build with the help of CMSB staff and @Djulia. I hope you find it useful. So what does this plugin do? What it does is add a link to the "accounts" list labeled "email account activated" for admin users only. When you click on that link a pre-formatted email from the plugin code is sent to email address of the line in the list of records you clicked on.

The reason I built this plugin was I'm using the "Membership Plugin" from CMSB which I have customized a little for a client. My client did not want accounts to be active until they had a chance to review who they were and approve them. So what I did was add a check box to the accounts section called "Active" that is defaulted to unchecked which is inactive. It's a simple concept, when my client checks off the box the account becomes active. I then added some code to each member page to check if they are active or not. If not the member is re-directed to a page explaining that they are not active yet. I know there is some overhead that gets added with this check on every page, but the client wanted to be able to lock someone out of their member section in real time so I had to do it.

So when my client reviews the new member and checks off the box that they are active, of course, they wanted an easy way to notify the client that they are active. This is how the plugin was born. They said to me, "Mike it would be great if we could have a link right here that allowed us to click once to send a template email to the client and be done with it". Being the pepole pleaser that I am I had to say yes and now we have a new plugin.

TIPS:
- You can specify what list the link shows in in the "gl_ena_addLink" function.
- You can change the $message variable for the email to say whatever you want, but if you are not familiar with how concatenation works you may want to read up on it here first http://www.w3schools.com/PHP/php_string.asp
- The "notice($message) function will change the blue alert that displays after the email is sent to say whatever you want so you could for example put "notice("Your alert text here")".

thanks for the suggestion ("admin_head"). I've updated my code. I actually tried that earlier before I really understood the difference between addFilter and addAction and I kept getting wierd results because I wasn't returning anything with addFilter. Works perfectly now, thanks!

When did you call it? Did you have to save the record to get the message? I've added a link to the list so the message is a response to a click on the link not a save.

Yes I'll make it public once it's completed. I saw the hook for "saved_message..." but that only works if there is a "save" variable in the url and since the action wasn't really a save I didn't want to cludge it together to work that way.

Okay, figured it out. Chris had explained to me in an earlier email to check out the hook names through out the system and I didn't comprehend it until now, anyway to get the message I needed I used the hook for "viewer_postinit" so in my plugin I have

I came up with something very similar, but have also been stumped as to how to get it to show at the top of the screen. Logic would tell me that if I use the notice($message) approach that the displayAlertsAndNotices() function should know what to show, but my guess is the clearAlertsAndNotices() function is being called somewhere after I set the message with notice($message).

Okay, so I found the function "notice($message)" that sets the notice for the "displayAlertsAndNotices()" function but when I add that to my code it doesn't seem to work? I'm adding "notice("Email sent.")". Any ideas?

I'm not creating a function in the Membership Plugin, I have created my own plugin and uploaded it to the plugins folder and activated it. My question is, is there a function that I can call that will allow me to reproduce a confirmation alert such as the "Record saved." alert that shows at the top of the screen when a record is saved. I know what css class is being used to create the look and feel of the alert and I have been able to echo html code with the css class applied to a div to show my alert at the bottom of the screen, but I would rather show the alert at the top. Any ideas on how to do this, right now in my custom plugin I'm using applyFilter to "execute_econds" hook so html I echo shows in the footer.

Does this make sense?

I'm building my own plugin that will allow the admin to send a pre-formatted email to new users once they have activated their account. I'd like to display a message after the email has been sent. Can I call an alert function and pass it some text for the message so it will show on top of the page like the "Record saved." message?

Think I found a bug. When you save from a single record section editor the blue success message does not appear at the top of the page like it does in the previous versions or like it does from the multi record section editors.

Hi Chris,

I also have the error can't find class file "lib/fieldtypes/textfield.php". It appears that there is a typo. The actual file is called "textField.php" and if you look at the error the system is looking for a lowercase "f" so it is looking for "textfield.php". I haven't tried to change the name yet to see if it will work, but I will in a little bit and let you know.

The challenging part was they also wanted to be able to upload an image for each separate pdf document on each multi-record in the section. So when you click on the image the corresponding pdf document would launch.

[font "Calibri"]Create a multi-record viewer with two upload features one with a table name of image_upload and another one with a table name of pdf_upload. Generate the code using the code generator as you normally would then add Chris' solution to the body of your page where you want the images to show up that link to the pdfs:

Did you only use one image and one pdf per record while using this code? I tried to use it when you have more than one uploaded image and upload pdf per record in a multi record section and it embeds all of the links and images in one loop so only the last listed link is active.

Hi Dave,

I've been using CMSB for about a year and a half now and really love it. I have intermediate experience with php and mysql so for me the freedom your product gives me is great, however I can see Don's point about if you were inexperienced at php and mysql you may have trouble with the templates. With that said however, I've never found another service that offers a solid product like CMBS that flat out works great and is kept simple. The forum alone makes your support team very desirable. Posts are usually answered within 24 hours. For the price of your product you can't beat that!

I do have a suggestion for CMBS which I'm sure you have gotten before. It would be great to see a proprietary integrated photo gallery. I've seen the options you guys suggest with a third party and I have read the forum and seen some work arounds. I've even come up with a work around myself that uses a light box on the front end. All in all it works but it is a little cumbersome on the backend. I think most people would be happy with a simple straight forward solution that produces a html gallery on the front end.
