Thanks! Works like a charm! A bit awkward but it does the job.

I'm aware that I need to save the mods and insert them into the next update. Inconvenient but not a big problem compared to the benefits I can get from it.

It would be nice if CMSB had a hierarchical assignment of the view website url. If there was a field for a viewing url and a field for viewing choices in the user account setup, then there could be a choice of using the default url from settings, using a url specified for the user, or using the url from the section viewer url (which CMSB could presumably get easily from the schema files).

What I have done is to change the view website url for some users to a specific url for each user by editing header.php as shown in other posts.
if ($username == 'sample') { $viewUrl = "http://sample.com"; }

However for other users, I want to change it to the url of the details page for the current section editor they are using. That also seems easy to do provided that there is a variable whose scope includes header.php and which contains that url. Hopefully we can do something like:
if ($username == 'sample2') { $viewUrl = $current_detail_viewer_url; }

Is such a variable available?

After over 5 years of operation with 1.41, we have only a bit under 600 articles in total, most of which are obsolete, so a 2500 limit is not a concern. I assume the 2500 is active articles. Out of the 600 or so, we only have about 80 which are currently active.

Our server does not show Perl 5.08. Only 5.00 etc so I still assume that AM2 is dead here.

So far, it looks like we can operate using AM 1.41 by just adding users and categories or possibly switching to CMS. However that obviously involves additional costs for us.

Since CMS has a 90 day refund policy, we may try that.

Thanks for your help.

According to the AM 1.41 server info, our version of Perl is only 5.0 so it looks like AM2 is out of the picture since it needs 5.8.

I was also just looking at your CMS builder and it may be better for us and the server does meet CMS Builder's requirements. The product info for it says it can have unlimited users. Can it also have unlimited templates and unlimited categories or other method of limiting user access to specific web pages?

We have been using AM 1 since 2003 and are looking at expanding that use.

As part of that, I have been looking at the AM2 demo and, while there seem to be some improvements, I have several concerns.

We are hosted on a shared server where the biggest restriction is CPU cycles use. Trials we have run in AM 1.41 do not show any problems.

In working with the AM 2 demo, there are a few improvements that would be helpful to us, however I am concerned that the new galleries option in the article editor could cause us problems in CPU cycles due to the image resizing.

The demo does not allow any changes to the admin settings so image resizing cannot be turned off. Therefore I can't see what happens if it is disabled.

If I try to upload images larger than 750x750, in the demo, all I get are error messages due to the image handling programs not being installed.

Do you have any information about the CPU cycles that AM2 uses, both when handling images and for ordinary use?

If AM2 does not work out for us, we may want to use a second copy of AM 1.41 rather than shoehorning a bunch of additional items into our existing copy. If we want to do that, what is the cost for an additional AM 1.41 license?

Thanks.

We have been using Artman for about 4 years and I am now testing it out on a new server before moving our site.

Artman seems to work just fine except that the Preview function in admin.cgi will not work and the search.cgi script will not work.

In both cases, the problem is the inability to write temp files and the result is a message like:
The requested URL /BCLM/artman/publish/temp_1213046068.shtml was not found on this server.

However, in admin.cgi if I get the above result for a preview of an article and then decide to go ahead and save it anyway, that is successful and saves a file such as article123.shtml in exactly the same folder in which the temp file could not be written.

I have been in contact with the hosting service and they do not think that they have anything in place that would prevent the creation of the temp files. I have control over the file permissions and the publish folder is 777, as open as you can go, but still the temp files all fail while the article files succeed.

To me, that means that something different is happening in the script for temp files compared to the article files and that may be the key to the problem.

Hope someone can help.
