ArticleManager 2 how to archive?

I know this is old... but is there a way to archive articles in ArticleManager 2?

I have articles back to early 2000s - need to purge several but didn't want to fully delete.

This is wierd.

ALL new article submissions are coming in as the year 2000 - it's like the system can't see 2013.

Anyone have an idea how to fix this? It's with EVERY single submission, even those manually submitted.

Article Manager 2 - turn OFF wysiwyg editor?

People are driving me BONKERS submitting formatting crap (highlighting words, bolding keywords only) etc. which of course, is a no no to Google anyway, so I've never allowed it.

However, its not just that, sometimes people put tables into the code, and other wierd spacing formatting.

Is there a way I can just simply NOT allow it to use the wysiwyg editor for the article submissions anymore?

I'm okay with it in the summary so they can hyperlink to a website, but any other code I want gone to stop it from screwing up (and wasting my approval time).

I want to rebuild the system by kind of moving it to like an "archive" folder (without maybe naming it archive).

What's the best/quickest way to have it do that? Simply change the directory in the admin / publishing? Or do I have to do it everywhere?

How do I put that in an rss / xml file?

It's still causing it, because I can't see when they've copied it funny or not...

and obviously I can't do it server wide because we have hosting clients who might not want it on the entire server.

Suggestions?

Hi Dave,

Well I fought with it for about a half hour with a programmer and it turns out that the article manager is sometimes taking characters as ascii... for example, a - (hyphen) was appearing in the rss feed as a diamond with a ? in the middle.

Not sure why because it was NOT an ascii code in the title or summary when submitted (Usually I can see when it is).

It was making the rss feeds render blank from the visible eye unless you looked at the code.

I edited and fixed the two offenders, but the issue still remains that I'd have to virtually check daily to find out which ones do that. I don't allow other characters in titles or summaries, but obviously somehow something is making them ascii on occasion.

This is seriously hurting my site... even the regular rss.xml is not working - it DOES post to the page, but when you view it its blank.

Any suggestions AT ALL??

This is kind of wierd, I haven't changed these files, but it seems they are now appearing "blank" (yet if you view them via ftp or view source, you can see the list of the articles).

Hi Dave - thanks so much.

I did try to set up the cms system once but had a lot of trouble, but that was your first version.

I think I'll tackle figuring some of it out then handing it to you guys as we've discussed in a few quotes in the past. I kind of like to have my hand in figuring it out though first because I'm the one who needs to use it.

Good to know it can handle the power!

I do have I think 2 licences of cms builder which I admit I still haven't used yet.... (time mostly).

My current article system is really starting to bog down our server being that it's cgi based too, so I'm leaning to putting the cms builder in place as I did intend to do.

My question, and PLEASE be honest here:

Can it truly handle thousands upon thousands of articles without slowing down drastically?

i.e., I currently have over 47,000 articles in my database, and the submissions are picking up speed, I'm getting now typically 750-1000 submissions a day now. (No, I can't keep up with them all, partially because my current "build" status is so slow...).

And of course many are junk.

However - most of those 47,000 articles are legitimate and live.

I did put in a quote request a while ago to do some customizing which I hope to do soon, but before I do proceed, I need to make sure this system will be able to handle it without slowing my server.

(i.e., wordpress hogs resources, my cgi program hogs resources... I need something that doesn't).

You need to look at your style.css files.

There may be two.

The first one to check/focus on would be whatever you are using as your theme - in your source code (html view), see where it calls for any .css file.

Then open it to see if any headlines are calling it to a smaller size, OR if your "h1" or "h2" tags are set to show smaller.

Secondly - in your cgi-bin/folder (artman?)/templates/singlepages/ you'll find a styleSheet.css.

Check the font sizes in the header and summary_title fields.

If it says like a font size 10, you need to make it bigger like 14 or 16.

If you want to give me your URL, I can peek at it for you by viewing the source code and see if I can find the problem.

If anyone knows... Number of articles minor fix

I have followed the "Number of Articles" tutorial:

But I've modified it to "only" show the total number of articles on my site (I'm not using the default menu).

However, because I have over 40,000 articles, it prints as "40000".

Does anyone have an idea of how to make it add the , to separate the "thousands" field?

Disallow wysiwyg functions?

When people copy/paste from word into the wysiwyg editor, it adds TONS of code that drives me absolutely insane.

I "could" turn it off completely and only allow text, but the problem is then it would stop people from being able to set a hyperlink.

Does anyone know how to disallow pretty much everything else but still allow hyperlinks, or at the very least, at least strip the code that is added from copying from word?

I am working on setting up CMS builder for the first time... (yeah, I know, I've had the licence for like, ever it seems LOL) - just did the upgrade this morning so I do have the newest version...

but I'm totally and completely confused compared to the old Article Manager :( (OH how I wish you had kept it up to date!)

Your instructions are either wrong or old.

I've been following the section editor instructions... I don't HAVE any of the tabs it claims I should have:

"http://www.interactivetools.com/docs/cmsbuilder/section_editor.html"

I ONLY have the "General" and "Viewer URLs".

Nothing else.

Also, it says "Preview website" and absolutely NOTHING exists, except my admin folder.

So I'm completely stumped. I'll keep going, but this is taking far too long to set up :( (I didn't want to use Wordpress when I paid for this system and it's just been sitting there, but I could have a whole site done in a matter of hours with WP.

Just a thought for you guys.

I'm clueless as to how to even add content... if I am, how are my authors going to be??

Last time I looked, I know there wasn't a way to import articles from Article Manager over to CMS Builder.

However - if I was to get a licence of CMS Builder, how would that work for trading off the older article manager licence?

Do I have to shut down everything that article manager built?

I want to likely switch and direct all new people to the new CMS builder for articles, but obviously I have over 40,000 articles in the current article manager system, and it wouldn't be practical for me to completely wipe it out.
