Easy to edit pre-designed templates?

I would like to know, if it is easy to change the templates, that come with an Instant Website. I like the solution with a template ready to install, but would like to make changes in the template and the layout. Is that possible in an easy way?

I have two questions about installing CMS Builder on a non-linux/unix webhotel.

1. When installing CMS Builder, all files are inside a folde. Is it possible to keep it this way, but still have all the pages outside this folder? My hosting provider can only give me full rights to a specific folder in my webhotel, where I have to install “the machinery of my site”, but I would like to have the pages to be like www.webpage.com/index.php and not www.webpage.com/folder/index.php. Is this possible?

2. Also my webhotel does not have the PHP 'mbstring' extension. I have asked my hosting provider to install it. But if he can’t do that, is it possible to make CMS Builder working properly without this extension?

Hello!

I’ve never worked with XML, but there isn’t a lot of code in the XML file for http://www.simpleviewer.net/simpleviewer/examples/compact.

Once I asked about another script, I got this answer, which actually was very helpful: http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/gforum.cgi?post=72528#72528

But the problem, as I mentioned later in that thread, is the conflict with the rest of the code on my homepage, so it actually didn’t work, without destroying the layout of the homepage.

Is there any similar coding I could do with SimpleViewer and the XML file, to get this working with CMS Builder?

For months I have tried to figure out, how to use a script like the http://devkick.com/lab/galleria/demo_01.htm, mentioned above, for my picture galleries in CMS Builder. But I am just not good enough for the coding, it seems… [:/]

Above, it was described how to use another of the scripts, but there always is a conflict with the other code for the page, so things come out ugly! Some mix of the css styles is the main problem, I think!

Anyone, who have seen the light? Or anyone, who have a good solution for setting up a nice picture gallery in CMS Builder.

I find the script SimpleViewer very nice, when presenting a Picture Gallery in a pretty way. But I don’t know if it is possible to use it with CMS Builder.

Has anyone used SimpleViewer with CMS Builder or do you think it is possible?

I have CMS Builder 1.15 installed, but would like to upgrade to 1.36.

Is it possible to upgrade between those two versions?

If yes, how do I do that in the safest way?

Is there an upgrading manual?

I need help for a good looking presentation of some logos.

What I would like to do, is uploading small logos (each with a link, so people, with a mouseclick on the logo, can go to a homepage).

All the logos then should be seen in a table with two coloumns but as many rows as needed, so there always will be two logos on each row, like this: Logo 1 and 2 on the first row, logo 3 and 4 on the second row, logo 5 and 6 on the third row and so on.

Also, if I want to delete logo 3, then logo 4 and 5 should be on the second row.

How can I do this with CMS Builder?

I have a homepage with news, where the editors write both a short summary end an article. But if it is a short article, they only write some text in the summary, that appears on the frontpage.

My problem is, that there is a “Read more” link attached to every summary, so people can go from the frontpage to the article’s page. But when there is no article, because the whole text is in the summary, I would like to have no “Read more” link.

How can this be done, so the “Read more” link only is visible, when there actually is an article, and so no “Read more” link is, when the article field is empty?

Hello,

I had a problem with the gallery above, because its css did all the time override the one, I had on the page.

The only problem is, that I don’t know how to get the php commands from CMS Builder to fit in, so I can see the images in the right way.

There is the same problem with both, that I can’t figure out how to use them together with CMS Builder.

And how to protect my own page layout, when using galleries with their own css? Is there any easy way to solve that?

First of all, thank you very much for your help so far. The solution you came up with, seemes to be just the right for me. Especially the version of Galleria shown as Demo 2.

Maybe I ask too much now, but could you post the index2.php file and the preset (schema) file where you implemented Galleria?

I’m in a hurry now and think I could save some time, if I can see an example of how the Galleria code is looking, when it is together with the php code on a CMS Builder page.

Or am I wrong, when I suppose it’s all about using a JavaScript, which is controlling how the images in the gallery appear on the page?

I have never worked with a gallery before and never used more than one image on each page on sites, I’ve done with CMS Builder. That’s why I maybe ask some stupid questions here right now…

Shopping cart with download logins?

One of my customers runs a newspaper, which has two editions each week. Now he wants to give people the opportunity to buy one or more editions on his homepage.

So my question is, if this could be possible to do with CMS Builder. I would very much like to have it working something like this:

1. You can buy one edition (one pdf file to download), and get a login for only this transaction.
2. You can buy 5 editions (5 pdf files to download), and get a login fyri 5 different transactions.
3. You can buy 10 editions (10 pdf files to download), and get a login fyri 10 different transactions.
4. You can buy 25 editions (25 pdf files to download), and get a login fyri 25 different transactions.

This means, that when you pay, you will get a login, depending on how many downloads you want to buy.

The payment method should be Visa/Mastercard and not PayPal, as PayPal is not a very well known paying system in the Faroe Islands. As far as I know, my webhotel provider can give me SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), when using something like VeriSign.

There will of course be several pdf files to choose from, so this will work pretty much like a regular shopping cart, maybe with months as categories - and always with the newest newspaper on top of the frontpage, and than maybe four or five of the newest belove it.

Is there a way, this could be done with CMS Builder? In a way this is somehow like the same, as when I buy CMS Builder from you or some of your other solutions. The most important thing is, that the system generate a login for the customer, when he has paid for the service, he wants.

Hi, Dave!

First of all: I’m happy to say, that the site is out now, on the adress www.tv.fo and also www.televarp.fo. It’s not totally dynamic, because I had to do some static pages, so the site could be ready, but I will finish it step-by-step.

What it is all about, when we speak about the situation with images (especially on the frontpage, but also in the news stories itself), is as follows:

1. I want to have the possibility to use images with news stories. On the frontpage they can appear as thumbnails (smaller), and with the news story they can be images (larger).

2. The stories should appear on the frontpage with title (that links to news story), date and a summary - and if there is an image, it should be there as well. If there is no image, the title, date and summary should still be there.

3. The same should be, when you go to one of the stories on the frontpage. Then everything should be there in the same way: Title, date, summary and also content - and an image, if there is any. If there is no image, all the other things should be there, only without an image.

The problem was, that when I did some news stories with no image, they didn’t show up at all. As I understand, it was because of the “foreach” statements, so that might be the problem.

Right now the images is the biggest issue here, and to solve it temporarily (so I could get the site out now, as my customer wished), I had to choose an image for the newest news stories, just to have them to appear on the frontpage.

And to assure, that it was possible for visitors to read the news stories, after they pushed the news links on the frontpage, I had to totally remove the image function in the news stories, because otherwise they wouldn’t appear at all.

The piont is, that I would like to have the possibility to use images, if there are any for the stories. But if there aren’t any images, it should not do anything with the rest of the story. Said with other words: I would have the possibility to present the stories in the same way, if there is an image or not.

Hopefully I made myself clear now. My english isn’t that good, so you have to excuse me for that. But I guess, that now you see and understand my problem…?

Hi, Dave! The first issue isn’t solved. If you click on the news links on the frontpage, the same image problem is on the page with the full news.

Today this site will be out on the final domain, so I try to do something to make some of the dynamic stuff static. But that is not a solution, just a way to avoid the worst problems with the image issue right now.

What I was looking for, was not the same as in tidindi.php, but I just mentioned that page, because it use the same data - and it actually works...

What I want, is the frontpage to act in the same way, if there is an image, as it does when there is no image. Which means, that I want the title, day and summary to show up always. And if there is an image, I want that to show up too.

Now there is no summary, if there isn’t an image, and that confuses me, because I have tried to move the "foreach" command to different places, but still I can’t get the summary to show up without an image, because right now none of the news story has an image.

The same problem seems to be, when you click on one of the news links on the frontpage!

Also the new code destroy my layout, but I guess that is not the biggest issue...

Another thing is, that I would like to have the first 5 or 10 records (stories with title, date, summary and an image, when there is one) on the frontpage, as they are now. Then I also would like to have some of the next records (maybe 5 or 10) with only a title link. How can I seperate the records in that way?

I am still working on the same homepage, where I now have copied old news, so some of the stuff from the old page will show up in the new one.

To keep the dates, I did create news with older dates, but now they do not show up on the frontpage (http://televarp.fo.space2u.com/index.php), but only on the news listing page (http://televarp.fo.space2u.com/tidindi.php).

How can I change this, so the news will show up on the frontpage as well? Of course, an almost empty frontpage isn’t much worth...

Hopefully, someone can help me out quickly, because the new homepage will be out on the final domainname later today or at last tomorrow!

Hi, Dave! Finally, some light at the end of the tunnel. But I’m not sure, it will last, because now I have solved the problem with some JavaScript code, like and a few other commands. I would rather do it with PHP, but right now JavaScript is the solution for me!

The problem with the funny characters appeared, when was moved to the top of “vegleidingarSida.php”. This was also the problem for me before, and that was why I in first place moved it belove the “LOAD RECORDS” command. I don’t know how or why, but (with yours and my former solution) it messes up the special faroese characters like á, í, ó, ú, ý and ð.

If we now speak about feature requests, I definetely would like to see some solutions on how to include multiple viewers on a kind of a frontpage or similar, because almost every homepages needs to have different menus, like I need with mine. So this is a challenge of great importance!!!

Thanks for your help, Dave! But your solution caused another problem. If you look at the letters and characters, both in the menu and the page, they are not the same as the others on the site. I don’t know how or why, but your change somehow disturbed all the faroese characters (that have something to do with either “vegleidingar.php” or “vegleidingarSida.php”), so they turned out to be something funny...

You can see the (big) difference, when you compare how the links under “Vegleiðingar” look like in http://televarp.fo.space2u.com/index.php and in http://televarp.fo.space2u.com/vegleidingarSida.php?4.

So I still ask the same question: How do I use many “viewers” on one page, without conflict between $filesRecord and stuff like that? What I need, is the possibility to use menus from the different sections on the frontpage and as menus on all pages. I don’t think the include works, so maybe you have some other solution, so I can have dynamic links on all pages?

I would like to display several viewers on the frontpage, but I couldn’t manage to do it, because I include header.php and footer.php (like this ) for better control with the layout. Then I included a page with only a viewer, but now the links aren’t working properly.

When trying to click on the links below “Vegleiðingar” in the left side of http://televarp.fo.space2u.com/index.php, only one of the pages open. The same page open, even if you click on any of the other five links.

On the frontpage I included the file “vegleidingar.php” which only has this code:
