As it give the same result and is much easier;-) I will stay with the hard code link for now.

Otherwise it seems to be going ok. It is still quite a bit of work. I have set up a system and up to now I am pretty pleased with the result.

I am starting to see what you guys mean.

In fact I have it set up in basically this exact way.

I wasn't quite sure how to pull the region selection into the section editors but I expect I have to start by adding the field 'regions' to a directory section.

This is done, and it works.

The directory structure was already structured to include all the subcategories per subject, so its just a case of creating code per region and product.

I'm just trying to figure out how to display all the listings for one region. The easiest way is probably to modify the code of the listing and details page but that's something I will need to work towards.

I tried the above just adding the 'where' => 'region = "alberta"', to a listing page template.

and that works.

Now just wondering to see how to make this go to the specified region list page and not to show hotels from all regions:

But do you mean I don't create subcategories right now?

I could do that but each category would eventually have subcategories, especially the directory listing categories, there are three of them and they all have 20 regional subcategories.

Why don't you take a look at what I have set up now, it could give you a pretty good idea of what I mean.

Yes, I checked the tutorial and ran into a few problems. Basically are you saying that all my directories are virtual?

I have a few directory listing categories so I am not sure about this because they are all a little different and need different tables. I don't want to use the same editor for say hotel listing as I would for say vacation rentals. I guess then I would need to create a category menu for each vertical, wouldn't I?

Maybe you could make a list with my examples above to show what you mean.

Really glad you stepped in here, I was going off in the wrong direction completely. Good thing I posted this.

Correct!
There are indeed a lot of similarities between sections, some of them basically have the same 15 or so sub-categories.

Parent Category pages will have a list of all the articles in them, at least the 9 latest articles or so, they include the latest articles from all subcategories.

The subcategories have the latest articles from that particular subcategory in them.

My website will be divided into "channels". Each channel will have a topic: Travel, Lifestyle, Cars & Motorcycles and Shopping. The most complex channel is Travel because we use directory listings and each subject: hotels, ranches, b&b's etc..are listed under their geographical regions.

However visitors can only navigate through the top channels in the header file. When you are in a "channel" the other channels are depreciated and don't turn up in lists of other channels unless they one would do a complete site search.

So basically my directory in a channel goes something like this:

Homepage channel = Top category : example: Travel Canada (single page with list of latest articles from sections below and a short intro text)

Subcategory: General Canadian Travel News
Subcategory: News from...Alberta (list of articles with intro)
Subcategory: British Columbia (list of articles with intro)
Subcategory: Manitoba(list of articles with intro)
Subcategory: New Brunswick (list of articles with intro)
Subcategory:Newfoundland (list of articles with intro)

and then you could have in the same channel:

Top category :Hotels in Canada (single page with list of all hotel reviews (latest) from sections below and a short intro text)

Subcategory: Hotels in...Alberta (list of articles with intro)
Subcategory: Manitoba (list of articles with intro)
Subcategory: New Brunswick (list of articles with intro)
Subcategory:Newfoundland (list of articles)

Does that help, to give an idea?

Hi Dave,

I'd like to thank you for a very useful explanation. I've been using Drupal for our e-store for a few weeks now running alongside Art Man. Although its jam packed with features and possibilities (modules), I really only got it to work well with the help of an experienced Drupal programmer.

Drupal will get pretty expensive in the long run eventhough its open source. Especially for small companies like mine.

We are currently deciding what steps to take to upgrade our site. I've also been looking at Drupal and we have our shop working with it now and the rest of the site on Article Manager however I wouldnt mind knowing what you think the advantages you think CMS Builder has over Drupal before I make any decisions.

I have recently changed the homepage from an shtml to a php file and had some SSI virtual includes on this page for which I am trying to convert them to PHP includes.

I am wondering if I am using the correct paths because I am getting a parsing error from my server for the homepage at http://www.dolcevia.com/index.php.

I am currently using the syntax:

navigate from one article to the next in an article

Hello,

Does anybody know how I would do the following.

I want to insert a link to show the next article (by date or article number) in a specific category. I want the link to appear above the content of an article page so that visitors can navigate from one page to the next page without having to navigate back to the index page of that specific category.

Any idea?

I heard it was very easy to switch from a flatfile to a database. Now, I have created a database and would like to switch but I can't really see how.

I've attached a screenshot.

Also, this will not be changing my file names and url paths in any way, right ?? I'd really hate to have to 301 everything again.

I just wanted to add to this question posted by carminejg3 because I think its a very relevant issue.

Google doesn't spider deep enough on our website with the current configuration, it basicaly goes as deep as index articles. It actually moves from the homepage to the index pages (where we have 9 summaries and links) and then leaves the site.

If we could randomly sort articles to appear on the index pages alternately the indexing of Article Manager websites could improve greatly. Is there not a script we can use for this.

Hi there,

That fixed my problem and I admit I could have known that;-)

But then.. I ran into a really really strange problem regarding two of my category index pages .

It seems as if an index page only wants to display properly if there are exactly 6 article links and summaries to a index page. (6 was my own preference).

These two categories are affected:
http://www.dolcevia.com/artman2/publish/trouwen/index.shtml

and

http://www.dolcevia.com/artman2/publish/kookboeken/index.shtml

You will see with the latter I have had to add a "test" article to that page because if I don't all the summaries disappear!

But it gets odder because in the first category I mention there are 8 or 9 articles (more than enough) and if you click on "Meer" which means "More", it should show the visitor the rest of the articles in that category and the fact is it just won't display them. It just displays white space instead.

I have a serious problem which I can't find the answer to. I have checked every option I can think of.

On this page some articles have the correct links and other articles link to an unknown placeholder.

This page is nearly exactly the same content but doesnt show the same problem as the former and all the links work even though they are links to articles in different categories across the website:

Can someone help me see where I have gone wrong?

Dear Ross,
This is a great feature however I am having a problem with publishing. The rules run into an error at one point and publishing times out.

The error I am getting is:
Error: categoryNums does not contain any categories! at /home/users/web/b1083/ipw.dolcevia/public_html/cgi-bin/artman2/modules//IT/ArtMan/CustomMenus/Publish/ArticleLists.pm line 249.

How do you suppose I should try and fix this. I included all categories in which I would show numbers. There is only one rule such as this.

Hello there,
I have been receiving a syntax error on an article which has iframe content which I loaded into the $art_content$ field in Article Manager.
The error is only coming up with Firefox 3.0 browsers, oddly IE 7.0 doesnt report the same error.
The affected article page is : http://www.dolcevia.com/artman2/publish/cat_bookonline/dvtravecasy.shtml
This is the only article file in the category that is giving this error. I can't really understand where the problem is coming from.
The code I am using to display the iframe is: http://data20.3.ecasy.com/agency/bertei" frameborder="0" height="1500" scrolling="yes" width="99%">
Can someone see what the problem could be?

Dear Donna,

I hope this is a good example:

Its based on a singular template which I have set up to show recipes only. At the end of the article I have a section under the title "Verwante Artikelen" which means Related Articles in English.

In this particular article I am using keywords: "pompoen", "risotto" and "zucca". As the main keyword I am using the word "risotto":

Article title: Risotto alla Zucca - risotto met pompoen

Article Link: http://www.dolcevia.com/artman2/publish/Pasta_amp_Risotto_38/Pasta_en_rijst-7.shtml

The result is that I get 10 articles under Related Articles, it pretty much just looks like just the last 10 articles which were published on the site.

This is the code I am using: IMPORTANT: I replaced "mainkeyword" with "zoekterm" because that is the label/name of my extra field.

You know what, I think I spoke too soon. Oops!

Because it doesnt really work. I thought it would and I tested it with all the combination I could think of but all I get is a list of the latest headlines without any criteria.

I guess what I am trying to ask is: could you look again? or test it?

Does it really work with you?
