I have a atandard web application that I sell to clients. The problem is that whenever I make a code change, I have to replicate it across every client. I would like the application to work like a cloud app, where the code base is common, but the databases depend on the domain or user signon. I am perfectly prepared to pay a license fee per client. My far bigger desire is to only update one code base.

I have installed Newsletter Builder, but as I understand it, there is only one mailing list. In a system such as Constant Contact, a user can belong to one or more lists. I would think that multiple lists is a major functional requirement.

Problems with TinyMCE

I have a client who appears to be having a great deal of difficulty with TinyMCE - claims that it does not work under Google at all, and the image alignment dialog causes her machine to consistently freeze. Are there known problems of this nature with TinyMCE? Are there minimum hardware/software requirements on the client side to run CMS Builder and Tiny MCE? (I know she is using an old processor with 1GB RAM)?

Recommended upgrade process?

When upgrading CMS versions, is it recommended that users upgrade a version at a time, or can versions be skipped? For example, I have a user at CMS v2.1 and another at v2.7. Can I upgrade both of them directly to v2.14? Or. do I have to go 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc?

I am interested in building an application that would run in "the cloud" and could be used by many diferent clients. This would imply that "client Id" would need to prefix all database records and be embedded in much of the code. Is this a viable concept, given CMS Builder's internal architecture?

I solved my latest issue by finding another thread in the forum and making changes to lib/common.php. Now in the comments plugin, I sucessfully add a comment, but then I get the error message: Error sending message: mail(): Bad parameters to mail() function, mail not sent. Please let us know about this error!

Also, i) how doesthe user log off? ii) request to change the password from the system-generateed one?

The CMS Builder upgrade instructions generally suggest replacing all cmsAdmin/*.* However, is it not the case that accesslist.ini.php, accounts.ini.php and uploada.ini.php should not be replaced?

Strange admin.php problem

One of my sites has developed a strange problem - the Admin screen does not display the Logon screen, but starts off with one of my internal files (called header.php) and follows it with the logon screen. I have used a Category Menu to create the general article hierarchy, which gets translated into a navigation menu. When a new Article is created, the relevant category is selected from a pull-down list, but there is nothing to indicate the relative position or order of the article within the category. My Articles section list consists of a list of articles and their categories; if I add dragSortOrder, the actual order of the artcles as seen on the site does not reflect the order in the Articles maintenance list..

Sorry, I'm still having a problem with this. I had an existing /cgi-bin directory under the root, gave that a 777 - didn't work. Set up a directory structure var/www/cgi-bin under the root and gave it a 777 - still does not work.

dragSortOrder conflict in articles lists

Hi:

I have shamelessly reused some of the best ideas in the forum to create a generic Article Manager in which an Article section holds an article that is linked to a Category. When looking at the Articles section editor, the fields are listed in the following order: dragSortOrder, category, title. However, I'd like the dragSortOrder to be efffective within the context of a single category, but changing the field order to category, dragSortOrder, title does not work. I really like the generic article implementation (remember Article Manager...), and don't want to go back to hard-coded sections for everything. Any ideas?

Thank you for your reply. Newbie frustration this is not. I've got two degrees in CompSci, been professionally involved in IT for over thirty years and have been using AM/CMSB for years! The trouble is that the documentation of the navigation code is weak. There is a sub-category tutotrial in the forum that describes how to set up a category/article scheme, as in the cookbook as well. What I was really after was a good description of the pseudo variables like _IsSelected, _isAncestorSelected, etc.

What I was trying to implement was a level 0 horizontal menu bar. When an option in the bar was selected, a left-hand menu bar would display only the levels below the selected node. I did finally finally figure the code out - it goes something like this:

Definitive navigation code documentation

I am trying to build a very basic navigational scheme with a horizontal one-level menu bar linked to a side navigation bar for levels two and three. The forum has threads dating back years on the subject of menus, but I can't find any definitive recent code samples. There are references to different parameters for the list viewer, but I can't find any documentation on this either. Any sugestions?

I think I have solved most of my issues, the following are outstanding: I) I have implemented a categories hierarchy and an Article section editor, as described in this forum. However, just like in Article Manager, I would llike to be able to assign an article to more than one category. However, I would then like to have different sort positons in different categories. For example, I have an article under the News category that I want to show under the Headlines category, but I may want a different "drag 'n drop" position in Headlines. II) URLs are usually relative to the current page - how do I create an absolute url? (See last menu item inhttp://www.apdama.org/mt/articlesList.php

Yes - it did work (more or less). I'm running into other problems..i) I want to have the links menu on every page, but I see that the genrated url is dependent upon the current page I'm on. See http://www.apdama.org/mt/articlesList.php It must be something to do with the ?category phrase which I do not understand. Also ii) when a user clicks on a category in the menu I would like to be able to load a default article into the main content area, rather than just showing a link to an article. How can I do that?

Thank you very much for your reply - I have implemented a category structure as described in one of the tutorial posts - please look at the sample in http://www.apdama.org/mt/articlesList.php The site that I am rebuilding is at http://www.mtparkinsons.org I think that much of the content can be handled by a single Articles section. However, there are quite a few examples where I want to have a custom List-Detail structure. For example, if someone were to click on Resources > Support Groups, I would want to have navigation pass to a Support Group List page that in turn would link to a Support Group Detail page. Another example is About Us> Chapter Board of Directors: I'd like navigation to pass to a page such as that at http://www.apdama.org/cmsb/boardList.php which in turn has a Detail page. Is it just a matter of changing the category code to jump to a specific file rather than an instance of the Article section?

In Article Manager, most content was structured into Articles (i.e. there was just one template for what we would call a section editor in CMS Builder). In CMSB, we can build something similar by using the category menu feature (still undocumented). More likely however, a website consists of Article pages plus more complex functionality in list-detail pages. Ideally, these would be both managed through a common menu structure. Are there "best practices" defined for doing this? Can AM2 and CMSB concepts be implemented together?

I have resolved the problerm in one of my installations by upgrading to CMSB 2.07 and using Firefox. I have been using Explorer 9 Beta, and I suspect that this is causing problems.
