Thank you, Jason.

We did understand those 2 steps. I'm working with another developer who is very comfortable with alternatives to CMSB, and he feels that if we don't have a simple way to migrate from AM1, it would probably be quicker and cleaner to use the CMS he is familiar with. I must say, to my dismay, his argument is convincing and I'll probably give in on this one.

I still swear by Interactive Tools products, but this migration project appears to be really starting from scratch and I may have to concede this one. I had hoped there were tools for this but I guess that was a little unrealistic. Time marches on.

Thank you for your response.

I'm sure this must have been asked and answered somewhere, but I can't find it.

Is there a simple way to migrate (upgrade) a site from AM1 to CMSB? We looked at this and it seems like a formidable task...almost a rebuild. Hope I'm wrong.

Specifically:

1. Is there a tool for transferring data from flatfile to MySQL?

2. Is there a clean, easy way to make template modifications from one to the other?

Any help you can give on this subject is warmly welcomed!
:)

Thank you.

Hi,

I've been working on a site where, again, it's important for the client to have the ability to update the introductory information on a List page. Here's what I've done in the past that works:
1. Create a section named "Intros"
2. Create the intro for a specific category as page in the section.
3. Add the Load Records Code before the intro location on the List page to include the viewer and add the record code.
4. Add (or add again) the Load Record List code for the list page for the list viewer.

I don't mind going through these steps during development, but wanted to confirm that there's no way update the "intro" text other than having client go to a separate section (Intros) and selecting the introduction update for a specific List page.

Now that I've articulated this question, I really can't see how it could be done any differently within CMS Builder...but I'm asking anyway. Between the Interactive Tools team and knowledgeable members on this forum I've learned there's always something more to learn about creative solutions.

Thanks!

Hi Chassa,

I'd be happy to post the URL, but won't do that without our client's permission. However, even though Dave points out that this solution is experimental, it works like a charm for us. This client is very actively using 10 "albums" contained in a "gallery" all produced through CMS Builder.

I don't know whether this idea is relevant for your needs, but we researched just about every photo gallery option we could find, open source and otherwise. Installed several, but came back to CMS Builder because it is, hands down, the easiest to customize the look and feel of to slip into an existing design.

It seems that every gallery out there has a different template system applied (that is, assuming the appearance is configurable), and for long term, reliable solutions, we've found that it's much smarter and more cost-effective to go with Interactive Tools. This way we don't have to bend the carefully thought out, user-friendly design of the whole site to fit a specific product...galleries, etc.

How we did this was to simply present the thumbnails in a list page, each linked to a detail page with the image and lots of content. With the addition of the next and previous links for each detail page, it's perfect.

So, the interface only requires the artist to upload a new work for each new page, add details and content in a couple of additional text box fields, and publish. It's especially helpful that the detail pages can be re-ordered by dragging. Very nice features.

Hope this helps.

Each thumbnail is linked to the detail page where the larger image is displayed.

Did that. So far, so wonderful.

But now I'm stuck on the Detail Page. I really need Next & Previous links on each Detail Page for sequential navigation through the individual image pages if someone doesn't want to return to the section list (thumbnail display) each time.

Is there any way to do this and maintain the thumbnail display with the 15 or 20 images we anticipate for each section?

Please say yes and tell me what I've been missing. I think that all the postings I've read refer to the List Page only, and we need that page to work as described.

Thank you!

Hi ethan76,

The answer in my case was fairly quick and easy...to create a second directory to hold the uploads directory (named after the domain name - wthout the .com suffix). You may want to check with support first, but I believe that if I'd initially created the redundantly-named directory, the problem wouldn't have happened. However, this may work only in a case like the one I encountered.

Copied below for you is the response I received, changed only to protect the root path and domain name information. I hope you can extrapolate your solution from this. If not, an email to support with your directory and path info will include specific information for your issue.

Interactive Tools has the best support ever, of course.

My response from Mike was:

"For now the best thing to do would be to copy the /CMS/uploads/ directory and move it into a /NewSite/ directory. This way the full path for uploads on your server will be:

/NewSite/CMS/uploads/

From there, you can change the upload path in the "General Settings" in CMS Builder to point to this new directory (/home/username/public_html/NewSite/NewSite/content/uploads/)."

Good luck!

Can't wait to get the next CMS Builder websites up and running!

Many thanks, again.

Upload directory after DNS changes

Hi,

I'm having a little trouble getting the uploads to show after a DNS redirect. This site was built first within a directory with a host where add on domains are permitted on accounts. (PrimaryDomainName.com/NewSite/). Everything worked great before DNS redirect, but now the upload path is wrong.

Previously, upload URL was /content/uploads/ within the NewSite directory. (/NewSite/content/uploads/)

Upload directory was:
/home/username/public_html/NewSite/content/uploads/

Now CMS Builder is looking for:
/home/username/public_html/NewSite/NewSite/content/uploads/

Any ideas? I know it's simple, and know it's just the path, but can't use /home/username/public_html/content/uploads/ as path since we have also installed CMS Builder there for another new site and /home/username/public_html/NewSite/content/uploads/

Have confirmed the correct path by running a server info cgi script on newly DNSed (new word?) domain which shows path starting with
/home/username/public_html/NewSite/

This may be something I have to take up with the webhost, but I am hoping you have a quick solution for me. Client is dying to see the site live. They absolutely love their CMS Builder.

UPDATE A FEW MINUTES LATER:
Thought I had a workaround, just by calling the doubled URL, but it doesn't work, either. Looking forward to your solution.

Thank you so much.

Yep. They surely will be able to kill their slideshows, but I'll admit to getting cute with the CMS.

It'll be great to have an additional level of access to address that. Will look forward to it. In the meantime have added cautions to the Field/Record Name.

Thanks a million for you help...and such a quick response. There's just not enough praise for your high level of support.

Thanks again.

Okay. I set up user as admin and see what you mean...it's just a name issue. Good to see they don't really get admin access to play around and destroy weeks of work for which they would have to pay again. (Would also maybe break my heart.)

I think I understand now. Will go test the field admin access question for myself. Shouldn't have bothered you with that one without trying it first.

Thanks!

Man, you are the best! I'll bet you can hear my sigh of relief all the way to there, 2500 miles away! Thank you!!

Does the "admin" designation mean they can update fields that were set up within a section to be changed only by admin? For instance, I had a lot of fun with CMS Builder and used a couple of places to include iframes, called by variable for that page. Works like a charm, but did designate admin only for that field change since if they mess with it, it'll break their beautiful slide shows.

Not sure that made sense, but does it?
:)

It's not a deal killer, like not being able to update, but would be good to know.

Thanks so much again.

We waited until the site was complete for delivery before setting up a user account for the client (just as we do for AM). What I'm trying to do is allow access to update most sections without admin access.

Haven't done this before, so now have an unexpected problem. My only choice other than admin seems to be: "Regular - User can only access records they have created."

After setting up this account, obviously my client can't update all those sections we want them to be able to maintain.

Omigosh!! What to do? We're delivering TOMORROW. Good grief. Nothing like waiting til the last minute.

Thank you so very much.
