Well, as I stated before, I have not found a need to post back to CMSB since Machform has it's own database but have many cases where I pass info from CMSB to a form. For instance, I developed an order system some years ago for a printing/document management company that allows their customers to re-order various corporate business forms. Some were very simple such as business cards for their employees and others were very elaborate forms or periodic flyers with many variable edit fields. Each customer has his own login creds on the website (using membership plugin) and can have multiple jobs and each job has a corresponding order form for it that is set up in Machform Admin and has a form number. That form number is entered in the job setup info in CMSB so that when a job is picked by the customer for re-order, all I do is call the form and pass the company, user and other info to it. The user enters the quantity and hits Submit and Machform does all the work from there ... notifications,auto confirmation and saving the data. (See uploaded file)

I also use it to use one form for each staff member contact email. When someone clicks on the "contact this person" button on their staff listing, I pass their employee number to the form which can be used in the Machform notification logic to send the email to that person.

Maybe this will help someone out there!

For many years, I have been using Appnitro's Machform as a companion to CMSB. In most all cases, it is not necessary to write to the CMSB database. Machform has it's own data management and now interfaces with PayPal and other payment gateways if necessary. It is the best self hosted solution that I have found that is brain dead simple to install and manage. The forms simply embed into a CMSB page using javascript or PHP code that is generated for you or you can call it as a pop-up form or it's own page. It is transparent to the user. In some cases, I have passed data from the CMSB database to the form. I have an unlimited license but it is only 39.00 for a single site and well worth every penny of that. Check it out at http://www.appnitro.com/

I have been wishing for a forms plugin for CMSB like Machform. It would be a welcome addition to the add-ons!

I have held off on upgrading the PHP version for a bit because I cannot do each account individually. The PHP version upgrade is serverwide so I need to make sure that none of the sites will have a problem when I do it. I just spun up another server and upgraded the PHP version to 5.5. I am going to move a site to it and make sure there are no problems with it before I do the other one.

Thanks for your input!

Yep ... the killing of the orphans!

On a serious note while on the topic, I need to take this opportunity to see if there is a solution to a parent/child problem that I am currently having.

The WYSIWYG editor being a designer's nemesis, I am trying to create a tightly controlled structured situation for a client that cannot seem to grasp even the most basic design rules and creates the most hideous HTML that totally breaks a responsive design. So, I am taking away his WYSIWYG field so he has to create a post which consists of post elements ... Banner Image, Slider, H1, H2, Paragraph, Photo Array, Document, Form, Video ... etc. So, the data structure is basically a header record "posts" with related children "post_elements". This all works very well and produces very clean responsive posts since I control every aspect of the rendered code on the front end.

The problem I am having is with the back end. I cannot drag-sort the post elements from within the "posts" record where the preview button is. I have to back out of the "posts" record and go to a filtered "post_elements" list in order to rearrange the elements' sort order. Also, if I edit one of the related elements from within the "posts" record, it returns me to the "posts" listing rather than to the related "post_elements" list within the open post record. I can manage it myself this way, but I am sure my client will never be able to. There are probably some tweaks to the back end code to resolve this, but I haven't spent a lot of time playing with the editing environment so am at the "Ask Dave" point in this endeavor. Is there something obvious that I am missing or would this require major surgery?

I attached a couple of screenshots.

First, you need to change the location lookup field List Options to Get Options fro MySQL query (advanced) Then enter the following in the query. (I am assuming that the table and field names match your database)

SELECT num, CONCAT(name, ' - ',address)
FROM `<?php echo $TABLE_PREFIX ?>locations`

This will concatenate the name, a spaced hyphen and the address in the lookup dropdown list. I attached a screenshot.

As for default check boxes ... very simple .. set default to checked. See attached screenshot.

I have found from much experience that very few clients can be trusted to enter data in a WYSIWYG without completely destroying your site styling. So, very few of my clients are given that choice. I have developed a system of Page Elements that are stored in related tables to the page number so that the client can enter an unlimited number of elements but I control the rendering of the data element. (See attached image)

Paragraphs are entered as Text Blocks, Page Headings as H1 Heading, Sub headings as H2 Heading, Sliders as an upload array, Photo Gallery as an upload array etc The rendering code for each element type is stored in Include files and called in a page rendering loop that accesses the related element table.

I found that modifying the WYSIWYG editor causes so many problems that it was not worth the effort. Furthermore, it inspired me to create a better mousetrap.

Bold Parents, indent Children in Category Menu

If you only have 2 levels, parent and one level of children, just apply CSS classes conditionally as such: (using your own variables and CSS classes, of course)

  <?php foreach ($categoryRecords as $categoryRecord): ?>
<?php $aClass = 'indentclass' // Default to indented class ?>
<?php if ($categoryRecord['depth'] == 0): // if this is top level ?>
<?php $aClass = 'boldclass' // Apply bold unendented class ?>
<?php endif ?>
?>
<li class = $aClass>
<!-- Put your link code here -->
</li>
<?php endforeach ?>

If you allow more levels, the code gets a bit more complex. I purchased the Instant Website template some time ago and I have used the code for the accordion menu and modified it to suit different applications.

I hope this points you in the right direction.

Try something like this if you want just the top leader: (You will need to substitute your variables for table and field names)

<?php // load the top points records assuming you only want the top leader
list($houseRecords, $houseMetaData) = getRecords(array(
'tableName' => 'house', // or whatever the table name is
'orderBy' => 'points+0 DESC' // bring highest points to top
'limit'       => '1',
'allowSearch' => false,
));
$topRecord = @$houseRecords[0]; // get first record only
?>
<div class="some-wrapper">
The leaders are <?php echo $topRecord['name'] ?> with <?php echo $topRecord['name'] ?> points.
</div>
