Would it be possible to populate CB with entries from an external database like that of VB?

It could either pull the info by connecting to VB's database and pulling it out, or VB could push it into CB by using some API supplied by you guys.

I reckon the pull solution is the easiest and most CB like, since it the most generic (can be used to integrate to other mysql products) and requires the least programming/technical knowledge.

I specifically, would like to pull "publishable" posts from VB and present them as front page comments or articles. The selection criteria could be post ratings (from trusted VIP forum members), approved posts (from fully moderated forums) or any other criteria that can be formulated by mysql queries.

It would be nice if you could register foreign mysql DB connections in CB, assign a presentation layer and query criteria, etc.

I would use this for www.atheist,net and www.ateist.net currently running article manager 1.41. I havent found any good reason to upgrade. Yet :o)

Me too. A published AM2 site would benefit from an alternative menu principle. Like this one. It makes it easier for end-users and would be customers to visualize other kind of sites that can be modelled with AM2. But I'll settle for a good tutorial based on a free (or commercial!) menu component. It just think Interactive is missing out.

Yes, we are talking about the published site.

What I would really like, is to have the category hierarchy presented in a drop down menu thingy - supplied by Interactive Tools. All those categories without parent category are top level and shown vertically, etc. Just like you would expect.

In addition to this, imagine that a category could be marked as "static" and you could use the built-in editor to maintain the its (for example "About Us") content. Perhaps this could be done introducing a new category static check box, a new static template option, and content replacement variable.

This way, we could use the AM interface to maintain the static parts of our site without to much fuzz and even have it show up in the before mentioned dynamic menu control.

Can you see where I'm going? Beside from making me very happy, and my webmaster tasks easier, it would also open AM up to a new segment of customers.

Hi,

Does AM2 have a protocol that describes how programmatically to push articles into AM2 for later approval and publishing?

Let me explain what I need it for.

Our sites are heavily focused around the VB forum system. This is where people feel comfortable writing stuff. So on each post I would like to put a "Publish" icon, that once pressed, will push the post into a category in AM2 where an editor can choose to publish it. On the front page the article would then be indistinguishable from articles manually entered into the AM system, with the exceptions that this category has a template that implements "X comments" for each post/comment that once clicked, leads back into the VB system.

I suppose I could just research how to put it directly into the mysql db of AM2, but I would still feel better if there were some "authorized" Interactive Tools protocol to do this. Some way of doing it that is endorsed by the AM2 developers so that it is less likely to break in subsequent AM updates, or, so that AM2 developers can issue warnings when that protocol IS compromised - and supply a new protocol.

Cheers,
Tim

I would also REALLY like a drop down menu feature. Ya' know .. some control that could be inserted into the templates where one would like the menu to be located. Its one of articlelive best features, btw.

And if interactive tools were to include the ability to make static pages (like a built-in version of Page Publisher) where pages could be placed into a menu hierarchy, it could serve as a full CMS. Oh well, it'll probably never happen.
