I don't know of anybody yet, but it should work.

Do you know what version of MySQL and PHP they have?

This is the email I got back when we wrote Yahoo with the cool copy/paste letter from I-T.
Does this look good to you guys?
Any things you see to be an issue right away?

I understand that you would like to have the information about the
server software to configure a Perl based application under your
account.

Justin, Yahoo! Web Hosting accounts have access to PHP, Perl and MySQL,
for building database-driven sites.

Currently we support:
=====================

* PHP Version 4.3.11
* Perl Version 5.8.7 with

* DBI (generic database interface)
* DBD: MySQL (database driver for MySQL)
* Sendmail is supported
* File write access can set through CHMOD

* MySQL 4.1.12
* phpMyAdmin 2.6.3

For more up to date information on the current state of PHP, including
version and environment information, please use the phpinfo() function.
Follow these step by step instructions to set up phpinfo().

1. In the File Manager, click the "PHP" link under Create. This will
create a new PHP page.
2. Enter a new filename in the "Filename:" text box. Be sure to appended
".php" to the file name. (For example: phpinfo.php)
3. Enter the following code into the large text area:

4. Click the "Save and Continue" button.
5. Click the "Run PHP" button to view the phpinfo() page.

Perl Path
==========

Perl scripts generally start what a "Perl directive", or the path to
Perl.
The web server's operating system reads the beginning of every script
and looks for this directive. Here is an example of a Perl directive:

#!/usr/bin/perl

We recommend that you use this directive on the first line of all Perl
scripts. The directive is required to pass parameters to Perl such as -w
or "warning" to add additional details to the log file while
troubleshooting your scripts. Here is an example of a Perl directive
with -w.

#!/usr/bin/perl -w

In addition, if your script is used in another server environment, the
Perl directive will ensure portability and allow your script to run in
most environments.

Cgi-bin And Perl extensions
===========================

Yahoo! Web Hosting does not require a "cgi-bin" directory to run Perl
scripts. You may place Perl scripts anywhere in your site directory
structure. You are also not required to change file permissions to run
Perl scripts.

Our servers will recognize the file extensions ".pl" and ".pm" as a Perl
script.
Your Perl script must be named with either a ".pl" or ".pm" extension.
We do not support the ".cgi" extension. If your Perl script has the
extension ".cgi", please rename the extension to ".pl" or ".pm".

CGI Perl Module
===============

You can use the CGI Perl module to create and handle HTML headers,
dynamic web forms, HTTP cookies, etc. Please review the CGI Module
documentation at:

Here you will find many example scripts that can be used with the CGI
Perl Module.

Supported Perl Modules
======================

Also note that The Yahoo! Web Hosting service only publishes support for
a few SSI tags. These are used to implement some of the AddOns. You may
notice that placing the SSI tags on the page doesn't work unless you
also "activate" it. I have noticed (via an FTP file listing) that HTML
files have their execute bits set on the file permissions after the
"activate" has been done. Yahoo! must use this to determine if it should
parse the file for SSI tags.

At the end of the day, does CMS Builder work with Yahoo! ahoohosting or not? I have Yahoo! hosting and just ordered CMS Builder. I have used "Listing Manager" with Yahoo! hosting for a while without any problems.

Hi RapidWeb,

I can't speak for Yahoo! hosting or guarantee their service or features. But based on the list posted it looks like it is supported.

You never know with hosts (especially budget hosts) and often things can be broken. They usually fix them when we tell them about it though.

At the end of day CMS Builder runs on thousands of hosts and is written to support hosts who haven't upgraded their software in years (we usually support PHP and MySQL versions that are 3-5 years old).

It's obviously in our best interest to have our software work on as many hosts as possible so we do our best to make that happen.

So it will almost certainly work, and if for some reason it doesn't then most other software won't either and you will likely need to switch hosts or have a html only site.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your input! I ordered CMS Builder (just got the eMail with the download info). So I am going to try to install it and come back and write about my experience.

I just wanted to mention this: Lots of smaller web sites run on Yahoo! Web hosting because it is user friendly for the beginner who just needs a few pages to start and these users stick around with the hosting when they upgrade their sites.

I have numerous customers who use Yahoo! Web Hosting. We installed “Listing manager for one of our client using Yahoo! Web Hosting almost two years ago and it runs like a charm. The only problem we had was we could not FTP one file that started with a “.”. I then called your customer service and was told to just skip this one file. I don’t even remember the file name. Maybe it was something like .access.cgi.

I also installed a Vbuletin message board for the same client. Had of course to setup the MySql database. Vbuletin gave instructions on how to set it up on the server and had a line in the instructions something like “Yahoo! Hosting Usesr should choose “localhost”. That makes me believe that with Yahoo! Hosting you have to know just this one bit of info.

Again, I will attempt to install CMS Builder for a site using Yahoo! Hosting and come back with my experience. I might have lots of future clients for whom we will use CMS Builder with Yahoo! and my experience might help other future CMS Builder users.
