CMS data on main site and subdomain

We're working on a site that has a public version and a members version. We were thinking of hosting the members version on a sub domain on the same server locked down using a third party membership program. The members version of the site will display a larger amount of the records than the public version of the site.
I know I can alter the code to display a set number of records, but I'm curious as to weather the CMS data can be accessed on the main server as well as the sub domain.
I know this next question isn't CMS builder related, but I'm also interested in trying to manage the content with Article Manager and I assume the same question applies to this program as well.
-Thanks

Depends how you set it up. If you have two installs you'll need to make sure they both can access the same database server (that it allows connections from both) and you'll need to link to the uploads from one domain (since they won't be saved on both).
Hope that helps, let me know if you have more questions.
