mailto: issues (Yahoo)

I know that this is a bit off the topic, but I've had a number of folks who use Yahoo and Gmail complain that they can not click on a mailto: link (encrypted or not) and get the link to work.
I know that they could easily make their mail program the default, but since I don't know who these folks are, I can't tell them to do so.
Is there a more universal approach that doesn't use the mailto: link that will work regardless of the mail service being used?

Hi Jerry,
We use gmail so we could try that locally. Can you post a simple mailto: link that isn't working with gmail?
The universal solution is to replace the mailto: links with an email form. The downside of that is making sure spammers can't hijack your email form to send spam (for example, if you allow them to add comments of their own).

Dealing with SPAM when using a contact form can definitely be a problem if you decide to go that route. I have recently started using a contact form I found, and so far have not seen a single instance of SPAM since implemented on 3 of my clients sites (6+ months). The best thing of all is that it is free and fairly simple to setup. I have tried/used quite a few contact form scripts and would rank this one the best by far based on my experience.
