Check Box - Multi Value

I have companies that will rent items or delivery rental items to mulitple states. I discovered the multivalue function which is cool but I would like to use the MULTI-Value Checkbox funtion instead of the "Control" highlight function because my customers can easily understand checkboxes.

The issue is that the MULTI -CHECKBOX function will list the 50 states long ways (REALLY LONG) down the page. Is there a way to make the list of states into 2 - 3 colums?
