For smaller web hosts I've found dreamhost to be quite reliable. A couple of us here at the office have used it for personal sites and we've also used them as a testing server for some CMS Builder. You can find them here:

If you're looking for a good dedicated hosting provider you might want to check out http://www.serverbeach.com/.
