HI. One of our clients has decided to retire, and has given us back the CMS we set up a ways back. What would be the best procedure for installing it to another website we could use it on?

Hi Wolf-E,

Do you want to re-use the CMS you setup for the client or the just the CMS license for another project?

If it's the CMS license the easiest is just to download the latest version and do a fresh install with your old license key.

Hi Wolf-E.

This isn't an official word, but I know that a CMSB license can be used on (any) one web site.

So the license you have can be reused on another site as long as it's the only one using that license.

A clean install would be as easy as the original installation, but I'd get the latest version of CMSB since there have been so many amazing improvements over even a short period of time.

That said, if the question is how to move your existing installation intact, complete with it's database and files to another server. There are some interesting posts on the forum about moving from one server to another.

Backup is critical to a successful move and it's easier in recent versions because of the automatic backup plugin.

Be aware that the backup and restore can only be done on the identical version of CMSB so you'd need to use PHPmyAdmin or another utility to back up your database before an upgrade.

Hi Dave

Thanks for the answer. I think the best thing to do would be to keep the license key, download the latest version to the new site, and make a donation via the IA site (which is only fair, as we would get the newer version for our next client). This way we keep inside the license agreement (one key - one website) and everyone is happy. Neat solution.
