Yea we intend to make a comments plugin at some point but we haven't got around to it yet. Your version looks like it does the job for that site.
Do you have related records setup showing the comments for each news item?

I've added your forum email to the beta list just in case you're not on there already. We're hoping to release Beta2 in the next few days. I'd recommend upgrading to that and giving it a try. You should be able to use the related records function to show comments for a specific item.
Let me know if you have any troubles with it once you try.

When I try to add the field type "Related Records" I get a pop-up error saying "unknown field type 'relatedRecords'".
I then get all the field options associated to all the different field types (as attached grab)

Can you try reloading or clearing your browsers cache? It sounds like it's cached the old javascript.
Let me know if that fixes it.
