whats "pseudo" about a psuedo field?

I am successfully showing a label instead of a num on my pages as described here in the forum and with Jaspon's help.
What does ""pseudo" refer to for this field? Is it because, the "actual" value is the number but i'm showing the label?

Hi Rez,
Yep, that's exactly it. The actual value is what's saved in the database under that field. But you can associate that number with other things, somewhere else in the database ... like the label. :)
