Incorrect datetime value

In the field editor, I keep getting an error message saying:

There was an error changing the MySQL Column, the error was:

Incorrect datetime value: '' for column 'next_date' at row 1


I'm trying to make a field available for date only, but as soon as I select this option from the drop-down menu, it won't let me save, even if I don't change the default options.
