Quick questions re: MCImageManager and Newsletters

Hi There,

A few quick questions. Is it easy/safe to integrate TinyMCE - MCImageManager (http://tinymce.moxiecode.com/plugins_imagemanager.php) into CMS builder?

Would I have to worry about future upgrades messing it up?

Also,

Is there a way (plugin in development?) to generate newsletters from the content inside CMS builder?

Thanks in advance!

Paul

Hi Paul,

I have never tried setting up the TinyMCE MCImageManager.

If you want to make changes to /lib/wysiwyg.php file, you can save it as wysiwyg_custom.php and it will get loaded instead of the default file and won't get overwritten when you upgrade.

The WYSIWYG editor currently allows you to upload images from within by default with CMS Builder so all code would need to be changed if you instead wanted to use MCImageManager.

This is on our list for future plugins to develop but not currently in the works.

Hello Damon,

Thanks for the reply.

When you say the code would have to be changed, do you have an example to show the nature of the code change required, just to give me an idea.

Thanks :)

Hi Paul,

Unfortunately, integrating separate pieces of software can be extremely complicated. It's often not possible to know what would need to be changed (or how much) without spending at least half the time it would take to actually finish the integration.

Our consulting department could defintely work with you on this and/or your newsletter generation. If that's something you're interested in, please let me know and we can work out a quote for you.

To answer your question about future upgrades messing things up: probably. Depending on what needs to be changed in your CMS Builder and what we change in future versions of CMS Builder, there may be no conflicts or lots of conflicts. Once again, our consulting department would be able to do a custom upgrade for you, merging your changes into a newer version of CMS Builder.

Note that newsletter generation could be done as a plugin and shouldn't suffer any upgrade problems.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.
All the best,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Fully understand what you say, so I may avoid something that will complicate the future upgrade path.

I am investigating the newsletter generation via RSS feed as an alternative.

Thank you for clearing that up :)

Kind Regards

Paul

Re: [8bit Gamer] Quick questions re: MCImageManager and Newsletters

Hi Paul

Just a quick note to tell you that I tried adding MCImageManager to CMSB back a number of versions ago. It only took me about 30 minutes to make and test everything, but as Chris mentioned, as soon as I updated CMSB it wiped out my changes. Was it worth the hassle? No!

Cheers!
