An Unusual Solution?

Hello, All
I saw a post a couple of days ago which has got me thinking! Someone needed help to solve a particular problem and Donna came up with a novel solution. She suggested they should run a MySQL query right at the point on the page where the person needed to pull in certain results.
I tried it and it seemed to work very well.
I tried it again, with some modified code, and it worked again.
By this point I'm starting to think I've found the goose that lays the golden egg...
The trouble is, I've never seen anyone suggest this kind of approach before - which has got me thinking that the Donna's suggestion (whilst good) may not be an altogether "orthodox" solution.
I'm not qualified to tell the difference. Perhaps someone can put me straight...

Hi Perch,
I haven't seen it often either, but Dave suggested the same to me over a year ago when I was trying to display different groups of events by time period (separating this week's events from events starting at other times).
So, it can't be that unorthodox.
