I need to be able to control the number of featured item each user controls, that is why I'm trying to do it this way. Is this possible?

That sounds easily doable using the website membership plugin.
Basically, you can set up your editors to only allow users to see the records that they have created (authored) then let them fill in only the fields that they want to show to visitor
2) use if statements to control the display of only fields containing content in the visitor's viewer
The devil is in the details but there are lots of specific recipes on how to use and customize the plugin in my CMSB Cookbook http://www.thecmsbcookbook.com
Hope that gets you started in the right direction.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am now a bit more confused, I thought the membership plugin was more for the "public" side of the site.
What I am trying to accomplish, is to minimize the # of homes a listing agent can "feature" I do not want the option of a checkbox that says "featured" as they can check 10 out of 10 listings. I would like to be able to set the number of featured listings each agent can have.
I then want to display all the "featured" listings to the public. I am sure I can figure out how to display them, I'm just having a difficult time setting it up in the CMS Builder itself.

Could you limit the number of records for any individual agent (user) in the "Advanced" tab of the section editor setup using the "Max records per user" entry?

Maybe I am the one confused, I am using CMS Builder as a realty site. Using the standard templates, each listing has a checkbox to mark a listing as "featured" if they choose to, they could mark every listing as "featured"
What I am trying to accomplish is to allow the person posting the listing to add as many listings as they want, but I want to limit the number they can mark as "featured"
In my mind I need a separate table named featured, then depending on the user that is logged in it would show the listing titles with and they would select from the list the ones that they wanted to feature. This way I can control the number each person gets to select as featured.
I hope this may clear up any confusion.
Again thank you for the quick reply.

Your idea sounds like a possible direction.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

There's a free user submitted plugin called "Show/Hide Fields For Users" that may be of some interest.

Thanks again, but that doesn't really help me, as I am trying to control the number of featured listings someone has.
Thanks,
James

I guess there is no solution. I tried looking through your book, it has a lot of useful information, just couldn't find anything that would help with this issue.
Thanks,
