Article Manager Images Plugin?

Hello, All -
I apreciate this may at first seem like a retrograde step - but is there any way we could create a plugin to mimic the way Article Manager handles images?
The system was quirky but reliable and far easier for non-techy types to master.
For those who never used it, Article Manager (1 & 2) employed a system of placeholders that were inserted in your body content wherever you wanted the images to appear.
For example...
...and so on.
What my users liked was the fact that you could upload all of the images in one hit before inserting them into the document body via the placeholders.
I've tried to replicate the AM system using functions - and I think I may have got close - but my meagre PHP skils are not nearly good enough to finish the job.
Could it be done - or something similar?

Hi Perch
Thanks for posting!
I see what you mean with the old placeholder system. This is likely something we can customize. It would just take some work to go through the different options.
Could you send me an email through consulting@interactivetools.com so we can start going over everything?
Thanks!
