Hi Guys,

I used CMS Builder for my own site and I was very impressed and I have someone who may want to use it as well.

However they asked me about the option of updating the website navigation automatically using CMS Builder. What they basically want to know is can you have your website menu or navigation mimic the section editors so that they show up on the website when you create a section editor?

Example:

If I create section editor "About Us" in CMSB then a new link called 'About Us' will be added to my front-end website menu.

The client basically wants to control what appears on their website navigation and where it clicks to without having to manually edit the HTML in the front-end webpages.

Thank you.
Shawn

Re: [smesa] CMS Builder & Website Navigation

Hi Shawn,

The short answer is yes, but I can't think of an easy way to do it totally automatically.

For a semi-automatic approach, you could set up an multi record "Navigation" editor for a navigation menu with only 3 fields. One for the Link URL (the target page URL) , another for the link text (to appear in the nav menu) and a Hidden check box.

When your client wants to add, delete (or hide) a navigation item, or change the order that they appear in, they can do that in this editor.

In the viewer, the navigation menu is a simple foreach loop that lists all of the visible records in the "Navigation" editor.

Of course there needs to be a target page set up for the link to connect to, but it sounds like you've addressed that already.

There are probably other ways to accomplish this, but that's one approach.

Hi Shawn,

Glad it made sense.

Hope you'll get a chance to take a look at my CMSB Cookbook http://www.thecmsbcookbook.com for other ideas.
