My client's site and CMSB seem to running incredibly slow in IE, but fine in Firefox and Chrome. IE struggles to upload images via CMSB and sometimes freezes. The same is true of pages that contain images uploaded through CMSB. Here's an example: http://www.masselsmarine.com/snowMobilesDetail.php?2007-Yamaha-RS-Vector-ER-24.

Any idea why this is and what I can do to fix it, please?

Hi Nigel,

I look a look at this page in FireFox and IE (9). Both seemed to work fine. Do you know what version of IE your client is using? Does this only happen from your client's computer, or do you experience the problem as well?

Let us know.

Thanks,

Hi Nigel,

You might try http://ajax.dynatrace.com/ajax/en/

Have not used it myself but it sounds promising.

Re: [Jason] Slow in IE, but not Firefox or Chrome

Hi, Jason. It's happening on at least two of the client's PCs, each in different offices with separate internet connections. I'm getting the problem, too, but only on pages in the Used Snowmobiles section: http://www.masselsmarine.com/snowMobilesSubcategory.php?category_keyword=Used and http://www.masselsmarine.com/snowMobilesDetail.php?2007-Yamaha-RS-Vector-ER-24.

I don't know about them, but I'm testing it in IE 8.0.6001.

It's also very slow to upload images to just this one section.

What I'm not understanding is why it's only the Used section that's affected. There aren't any problems with other Snowmobile subcategories or pages, even though they use the same template and CMSB section. Here's a page that works ok: http://www.masselsmarine.com/snowMobilesDetail.php?Apex-X-TX-5.

Hi Nigel,

I have IE9 installed and the used snowmobile index loaded fast for me.

One thing I noticed when viewing the page source is that you are missing a <!DOCTYPE>. This may be contributing to the issue.

This wouldn't effect the admin though.

Re: [Damon] Slow in IE, but not Firefox or Chrome

I've corrected the <!DOCTYPE> error - thanks for spotting it - but still no luck. http://www.masselsmarine.com/snowMobilesDetail.php?2007-Yamaha-RS-Vector-ER-24, for example, is causing IE to freeze and crash.

I've attached the template.

I really don't get why this is a problem. It's only with the Used Snowmobiles details pages, not any of the other Snowmobiles subcategories. However, all of the Snowmobiles details pages run off the same template.

Re: [Jason] Slow in IE, but not Firefox or Chrome

Hi, Jason.

I don't know which version my client is using. However, we're more concerned that their site's visitors might be encountering the same problem, so simply upgrading our own browsers might be a fix for us, but I'd rather not have to recommend on the site that it's best viewed in IE9.

I'm going to try creating a Snowmobiles page from scratch and see if I can reproduce the problem. That might point me in the right direction.

Cheers,

Re: [Jason] Slow in IE, but not Firefox or Chrome

Ok, I've discovered what the problem was. The client had created a table in Excel, which they copied and pasted into a wysiwyg field in CMSB. It produced hundreds and hundreds of lines of code that don't actually do anything - <colgroup><col></col> etc. The reason the CMSB pages and the live web pages loaded so slowly is because IE was having to process all this and the whole site ground to a halt. I went into the HTML version of the tables, deleted the excess code, and now everything works perfectly.

Thanks so much for your patience and for looking for a solution.

Hi Nigel,

Good detective work on that one! Glad to hear everything is working correctly now.
