Personalised Editor Screens

Hello, All -

I've just started work on a fairly large community portal - which will be built around a CMSB system.

Due to the number of people who will (pontentially) be able edit the content, coupled with their varying levels of IT comfort, I want to see if I can provide each group of users with their own customised data entry pages.

In simple terms I want to know if I can create some kind of form which would mimic the editors found in the CMSB admin area. The form would be designed in such a way as to provide each user group with a personalised, slimmed-down version of the editor screen found in the CMSB backend.

(NB: I know I could use a plugin like the "Show/Hide Dependent Fields" to achieve similar results but in it's current form it doesn't quite do the job neatly enough.)

Is this a starter?

Hi, Gerry -

The problem with the "Show/Hide Dependent Fields" plugin is that it doesn't work with certain types of field. IMHO that renders the thing pretty useless!

I wish they'd fix it.

Hi Perch,

There's a workaround for separators in the recipe.

I guess I haven't come across any other field issues that caused a problem in my implementation.

Have you looked at Show-Hide-Dependent-Fields-Plus?

It may answer some of the issues with the first plugin.

BTW: I've also used Show-Hide-Fields-For-Users

and Modify Home Page

Hi, Gerry -

If I remember correctly, multi-select menus cannot be hidden - which is the biggest problem.

Multi-select list fields aren't yet supported by the Show/Hide Dependant Fields plugin.

Read Robin's comments in another thread...

If these fields remain visible when you want them to be invisible, what's the point?!

OK, got it.

No it was never an issue in my implementations, which were a while ago.

The original plugin and the "Plus" plugin were free.

I'll bet that the multi-select field improvement would not be very expensive through consulting.

Maybe you could share the cost with zick, hybrid, rusty, usadomains, me (all contributors to the other post) and others?

Kind of like Kickstarter crowdsourcing for CMSB.

Perch,

What kind of content is it and how many fields? I have a simple front-end record edit form I could send you with example for text fields and text boxes. You'd need the Membership plugin for people to login outside of CMSB though.

Maybe let me know more details on what you are trying to do and how you'd like it to work and I'll see if I can think of any suggestions. Thanks!
