Re: [Dave] New Docs: How to Move Servers

Hi Dave,

Very needed tutorials indeed. Thank you for adding them.

I’d recommend that some notes be added to the "How to upgrade" instructions reminding that:

Any custom changes that you’ve made in your core CMSB files will be overwritten when you upgrade.

Some of your changes for older versions may not work in the newer versions without some tweaking.

Keep a textfile log of all changes that will be required after any upgrade in the cmsAdmin folder.

In the "How to move servers" instructions, this line is a bit confusing.:

Tip: If you previously did a backup and restore you can upload just that files that have changed, such as the MySQL backup file

What I think you mean is that:

If you have a lot of backup files (like from the auto backup plugin), you might want to delete all but the most current backups from the downloaded data/backups folder before you upload the cmsAdmin files to your new server (that could save a bunch of unnecessary upload time).

Another note I’d add:

Don’t forget to check your plugins, viewer code, and the information in your admin general tab for references to the old server IP address.

Best,

Thanks Jerry,

For upgrading, I've added some advanced tips on:
- Manual MySQL backups and restores
- Upgrading sites with custom changes

And for moving servers, I added:
- 4. Update any references to the old server
- Manual MySQL backups and restores

The "if you previously did a backup" was a reference to keeping two servers in sync and not having to do a full backup/restore each time. I wrote some content for it but it turned out to be more complicated than useful so I've just hidden that content for now.

Thanks for your help, let me know any more feedback.
