Assiging records to users

I'm trying to set-up a CMS Builder installation so that certain users only have access to certain records.
The company runs a website showing details about franchises. Each franchisee will have a login to CMSB and be able to update their own information. I've done this by setting each user as an 'Author' and assigning the 'Created By' for the franchise record to be that user.
I'm trying to extend this to have another CMSB table for 'Staff Members'. For each staff members record, I need to have the location which I've set-up as a list field, pulling information from the franchise records, but I'm finding that although each user can only access their own franchise record, they are able to see all franchises in the list field for 'Staff Members', meaning they could potentially create staff member records for other franchises.
Can you think of a way around this?

Hi Paul,
Instead of "get options from database (advanced)", you can use "get options from MySQL query (advanced)" and insert the current user's num into the WHERE clause, like this:
SELECT num, title
FROM `<?php echo $TABLE_PREFIX ?>every_field_multi`
<?php if (!$CURRENT_USER['isAdmin']): ?>
WHERE createdByUserNum = '<?php echo $CURRENT_USER['num'] ?>'
<?php endif ?>
This way, the only list items returned are the ones which the current user owns. Does that do what you want?
