Forum Wish List

Hi All,

Just some thoughts and wishes for the forum as we head towards 2015.

I'd love to see the return of the ability to contact forum contributors by private messaging. Possibly with an opt out feature for those who wish to remain anonymous.

I'd also love to see the implementation of something similar to the "Website Favorites" plugin so that we can easily save useful posts/threads to our profile.

And this note to all forum participants (including me...).

Most of us who post on the forum end up solving our challenges and implementing those solutions.

There are a growing number of really good posts that unfortunately end with some variant of "Thanks, I got it working..."

It would be helpful if we could take the time to post the final solutions for our questions/issues/challenges so that others can learn by them.

Best to all for the new year,

Jerry Kornbluth

It would be handy to have a "Mark all as read".

Hi Jerry,

Without private messaging, the archiving of posts only a few months old pretty much shuts down any possibility of reaching those members that don't post consistently, to continue a thread or ask for clarification on a point.

Any chance that the archiving rules can be relaxed to allow for a a longer window? Maybe a year or longer?

Can you explain what you mean by "archiving of posts"?

There isn't any archiving feature that I'm aware. All the posts remain in date order of the last post.

Cheers,

Hi Damon,

When I go to this post

http://www.interactivetools.com/forum/forum-posts.php?79761

and  earlier, they say Archived instead of Reply

Is it some setting in my profile?

Best,

Jerry

Hi Jerry,

Just found the archive setting, after chatting with Dave, and set it to be 180 days (6 months). I also learned that the archive setting was put in place because spammers would reply to really old posts, we would delete the spam post reply, but then the post would be left as more current.

Hopefully 6 months works and if there is a post that needs to be opened up again we can look into that as well.

Also, when a support request via the forum moves from the forum to email (for server details, etc), we are trying to make a point of going back to the original forum post after the issue is resolved so the forum is complete and a reference for any one else finding it.

Thanks for all the great feedback!

Cheers,
