_sc_action issue with google?

By Toledoh - January 27, 2015

Hi Guys,

Google is picking up errors on a site, saying that the page the following page has no content:

http://www.freestylepools.com.au/products.php?_sc_action=add&_sc_items=5f7e398baec62bcc6224b5fecc781256c24a476c

There are a number of these errors, which apparently is detrimental to SEO...  can you offer any suggestions?

Cheers,

Hi Tim

It sounds like Google is trying to crawl pages that shouldn't be crawled. I've looked at that page and all I see is a session error - it's possible the Google crawler sees the same thing.

Double-check the robots.txt file, perhaps? If this is a major SEO issue, then using the Permalinks plugin might be the best solution.

Should we be adding nofollow tags to these kind of links? Seems that google crawled an "add to cart" link previously, on an item that is no longer available, or a cached cart?  Or should we be using buttons rather that a tags?

Yes, I believe so. The add to cart button should only be clicked by an actual human, so crawlers gain nothing from it.

I'm not sure how exactly Google got access to that but adding nofollow to all your add to cart links should stop it.
