Currently, in General Settings, we have an option to "Always show expanded menu (don't hide unselected menu groups)". When on, all menus are open and can't be collapsed. When off, only one can be open at a time.
This is overly broad.
I wonder if we could get a default collapsible on each menu group item using a checkbox in the schema (menu_order?). This would be a default setting that exists for a session. Each menu group would be open or closed based on the schema setting at the start of a session. I have a lot of tables that I want access to, but don't need to show them all the time. This would make the sidebar much more helpful and improve the user experience.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've thought about this as well. Sometimes there are some menu links that I always want to see.
Storing per session info is a bit trickier but I've added a per-menu option for "Always show expanded" so you can specify that a specific menu group should always be open.
That will be in beta 3, likely within the next few days.
